On My Daddy's Side

What inspired this painting is the origin story that a lot of us can relate to. Growing up and embracing the culture outside of our grandmother's, aunt's or uncle's house. The togetherness we felt with siblings or cousins. I wanted to capture the essence of that and show that a lot of us share that story. My dad is from New Orleans and we would go to visit his family every summer, so here is a depiction of my siblings and I.

This painting is meant to bring a sense of togetherness and belonging, because for a lot of us these moments in our lives are part of our origin story. It's important to acknowledge the influence these small, yet significant moments and memories had on our lives and how they played a part in shaping us to be who we are today.
